A tax credit is a direct dollar for dollar reduction of what a taxpayer owes on their annual tax return. This tax credit is only for first time home buyers. You can qualify as a first time homebuyer if you have not owned a home within the past three years.
What are the Details?
Eligible Properties for the tax credit are any single family residence that will be used as your principal residence. The full $8,000 credit is available to individuals with an adjusted gross income of no more than $75,000 ($150,000 joint). This credit can even be used with bond financing. There is no repayment for purchases on or after January 1, 2009 and before
December 1, 2009. If the home is sold within three years of purchase, the entire amount of credit is recaptured on sale.
